5-Amino-1MQ, or 5-amino-1-methylquinolinium, is a synthetic small-molecule research compound investigated as an inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). Unlike many products in this range, 5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide.
NNMT is an intracellular enzyme involved in nicotinamide metabolism, where it catalyses transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine to nicotinamide. Because this reaction intersects with both nicotinamide/NAD+ metabolism and cellular methyl-donor pathways, NNMT provides a useful molecular target for biochemical and metabolic research.
5-Amino-1MQ is therefore of particular interest in controlled laboratory studies examining NNMT enzyme activity, nicotinamide metabolism, NAD+ salvage pathways, methylation biochemistry, cellular energy regulation and the downstream effects of selective enzyme inhibition.
