DSIP, or Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide, is a synthetic nonapeptide composed of nine amino acids with the sequence Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu (WAGGDASGE).
DSIP was originally characterised through laboratory research examining delta-wave EEG activity, which led to its name. Subsequent research has explored the peptide across neuropeptide signalling, sleep-associated experimental models and stress-related biological pathways, although its precise endogenous role and receptor mechanism remain unresolved.
That uncertainty makes DSIP particularly interesting as a research compound. Its defined nine-amino-acid structure allows investigation of peptide structure–activity relationships, sequence specificity, peptide stability and the molecular mechanisms associated with neuropeptide signalling.
