Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide with the amino-acid sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro (TKPRPGP). It was developed as an analogue of tuftsin, a naturally occurring tetrapeptide, with an additional Pro-Gly-Pro sequence added to improve peptide stability.
Its defined seven-amino-acid structure has made Selank of interest in laboratory research involving regulatory peptide signalling, gene-expression changes and neurotransmission-related pathways.
Published experimental research has examined Selank in relation to GABAergic signalling, including changes in the expression of genes associated with GABA receptors, transporters and other neurotransmission systems.
